Welcome to the "Mates Up-Over" and "Yanks Down-Under" community group! This site is primarily to support Australians & Kiwis transplanted in America & Canada, Americans & Canadians in Australia, and families of all. There are all sorts of in-between situations too. So the bottom line is - if you have any interest in this website, for whatever reason, come on in and make yourself at home.

Australians Abroad features a message board, a chat room, a resources list with links to travel, immigration and international shipping sites, as well as columns written by Australians, including, "Letter from New York" and "Musings from Melbourne." The anecdotal columns, in which Australian slang is common, address issues facing many expatriates -- managing finances in Australia from overseas, obtaining credit in a foreign country, finding insurance.

The Southern Cross Group is an international volunteer-run and independently funded advocacy and support organisation for the Australian Diaspora. It was founded in January 2000 at a "town hall" style meeting held in Brussels, Belgium, attended by some 35 local Australians. Those present at the founding meeting were of the view that there was a need for an advocacy organisation which could actively focus on and work for changes to law and policy that negatively impacted or disadvantaged those in the Diaspora.
