This has the advantage of offering continuity on return to Australia, and it is usually cheaper than using International insurers. The Australian Government's Smarttraveller website is often a good indication of whether Australian insurers will cover you on a particularly country. If it advises you don't travel to a country, or re-consider your travel, then coverage will often be difficult to obtain. Sometimes only (term) life insurance will be available rather than trauma or income protection.
